Overview:
Religious Studies challenges people to think deeply about some of the most profound questions in life: is there a God? Is there any purpose to life? Is religious belief reasonable in the modern world? How should I live? What does it means to say that an action is ‘good’?
All students will follow the Philosophy of Religion course. Here we explore questions such as, how far do the classic arguments prove the existence of God, is it reasonable to believe in God, can God be experienced, or have the discoveries of science and the insights of psychology explained away God. Students can choose to study either Ethics or Islam alongside the philosophy course.

Course Outlines:
The Ethics course is the study of what is right and wrong. In the ethics course, we consider whether there is anything fundamentally different between human life and animal life. We question what makes an action good and get to grips with some of the most pertinent ethical issues such as those raised by the legalisation of euthanasia and abortion.
The Islam course investigates the Muslim experience in Britain. We consider what it means to be a Muslim and explore the challenges Muslims face in practicing their faith within an increasingly secular society. In the second year, we carry out an in-depth study into the nature of Muslim fundamentalism and the relationship Islam has with the West.
