The History Boys premiered at the Royal National Theatre in London on 18th May 2004.  Its Broadway debut was on 23rd April 2006 at the Broadhurst Theatre where 185 performances were stages before it closed on 1st october 2006. It won multiple awards, including the 2005 lawrence Olivier Award for Best New Play and the 2006 Tony award for Best Play.  The play opens in Cutler's Grammar School, Sheffield, a fictional boys' grammar school in the north of England.  Set in the early 1980s, the play follows a group of history pupils preparing for the Oxford and Cambridge entrance examination under the guidance of three teachers (Hector, irwin and Lintott) with contrasting styles.  Hector, an eccentric teacher, delights in knowledge for its own sake, but the headmaster ambitiously wants the school to move up the academic league table.

Students visit Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

Cadbury College's second year Drama students are currently studying 'The Taming of the Shrew' by William Shakespeare as part of their course.

Earlier this month, the students visited Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London to watch the play for themselves.  The production was a contemporary adaptation of the Elizabethan play, and made use of the unique theatrical design of the Globe, a replica of the original theatre of 1599.

Following their first-hand experience of the play, the students are now analysing the director's interpretation, the acting techniques and the design elements including the set, the props and the costumes. This analysis aims to help them gain a wider understanding of the play, providing them with useful skills and techniques to portray in their own acting and coursework pieces.
