The college has a programme of support for students to help them progress into higher education. Last year nearly 500 upper sixth students gained places at university on a diverse range of degree courses.
UCAS Support Programme For Lower Sixth Students:
In the summer term during weekly tutorials students are introduced to the online application process "UCAS APPLY" (see below). The students are given a HE Guide booklet and along with support from their personal tutor, are guided through the online application process.
There will also be a HE Convention at the University of Birmingham on the 28th and 29th June 2012, which the students are encouraged to attend. The college will also host a HE Day on Thursday 5th July 2012 where there will be a wide range of subject talks by representatives from over 40 universities.
There will also be a HE Parents Evening on Thursday 5th July 2012 aimed at providing parents with key information about the application process and finances relating to higher education. The students are encouraged at this stage to visit university open days, many of which take place on Saturdays so that students do not have to miss college lessons. Please visit www.opendays.com..
Lower Sixth students must complete the first draft of their UCAS personal statement and submit it to their personal tutor before the end of term. Their enrolment into the upper sixth year could be blocked if a personal statement has not been submitted.
UCAS Support Programme For Upper Sixth Students:
The student will work towards completing their online UCAS application including a personal statement at the start of the upper sixth year and confirm their HE course selection. College & UCAS deadlines for 2011-12 are:
30th September: College deadline for Oxbridge and Medicine, Dentistry & Vet sciences. 15th October: UCAS deadline for Oxbridge and Medicine, Dentistry & Vet sciences. 9th December: College deadline for all UCAS applications. 15th January: UCAS deadline for applications (except some art & design applications)
Following the college deadline of 9th December Personal Tutors will complete references for each student application and submit the application form before the UCAS deadline of 15th January. The college and UCAS deadlines for 2012-13 will be published in due course but are likely to follow the same format.
Oxbridge and Medical, Dentistry & Vet Science School applications:
The college has a programme of support for students wishing to apply to Oxford or Cambridge and medical, dentistry and vet courses. This involves support and advice with the application process, taster days and visits to universities, guest speakers in college and medically related work placements.
