Eighteen year old Lucy Grosvenor, from Kings Heath, is currently in her second year of studying A Levels in Fine Art, Graphic Communication and 3D Design at the Kings Norton based college. When she completes her A Levels in the summer, Lucy is planning to study a specialist pre-degree Art and Design course at Cadbury College, which will start in September.
The BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is aimed at students who wish to progress on to a creative degree at university. The former Bishop Challoner Catholic College pupil, who is considering a career in visual communication or illustration, is looking forward to further developing her creative talents on the year-long course. She said: “I will be exploring all aspects of art and design and developing a core range of skills which will prepare me for my degree and build a strong portfolio. Not only does Cadbury have good art facilities and excellent teachers. I know I will be stretched to achieve the best results."
Students on the one year course will study a broad range of art and design practice from fine art, graphics, textiles, 3D Design and photography and be taught by experienced artists and designers.
Artist and Assistant Principal at Cadbury College, Andy Cookson, is one of the teachers on the course. He has been teaching Art and Design for over fifteen years and has exhibited his work nationally including solo exhibitions in London and the south east. He continues his artistic practice specialising in fine art painting and printmaking. Speaking about the course, Andy said: “Students on the course will have the chance to explore a range of specialisms within art and design in a very supportive and creative atmosphere. The course is ideal preparation for those wishing to continue onto degree level study in a creative field.”
Applications are now open for students wishing to join the course in September 2014.
