Bournemouth: Here we come!

#Bournemouth2K17 is happening, and students have arrived safely at the Southern Coast of England, and have already visited some of the sites on the agenda!

Accompanied by three members of staff (Ian Vogel [Geography & Travel & Tourism teacher], Dean Collins [Sports teacher] and Gill Moss [Maths teacher and Deputy Vice Principal), the students climbed aboard the mini-bus in the morning to start their trip!

By their first day, they had already visited West Bay in Dorset, which features in hit TV series Broadchurch. They've also been to Durdle Door too! Their trip also included visits to the Jurassic Coast, Chesil Beach (the UK's largest tombolo) and Stonehenge on their return.

The Taming of the Shrew

Drama and English staff and students enjoyed a day of interactive, practical and fun workshops centred around the play "The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare.

The sessions were held by Tom Davey, a representative from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London.  The first workshop was for students who are going to see the production of The Taming of the Shrew in London in 2 weeks time at the Globe Theatre. The workshops aimed to support the students in writing their analyses of the performance for their coursework.  Tom helped them to get into character and fully understand the play, its ideas and the interactions between the performers.  The second workshop was aimed at staff of English and Drama departments, demonstrating practical strategies for teaching any Shakespear play to a cohort of students,
