IT – Cambridge Technical Level 3 (Extended Certificate)

What does the course involve?

Developing your knowledge, understanding and skills of the principles of IT and Global Information Systems. You will gain an insight into the IT sector as you investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale, and the importance of legal and security considerations. Designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector, the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Certificate in IT focuses on the requirements that today’s universities and employers demand such as communication, problem solving, time management, research and analytical skills. You will also develop professional, personal and social skills, as well as theoretical knowledge and understanding to underpin these skills.

Components of the Course

There are 3 mandatory units:

  • Fundamentals of IT
  • Global Information
  • Cyber Security

These are assessed by written examinations that can be taken in January or June each year; resit opportunities are also available.

There are 2 optional units taken from:

  • Internet of Everything
  • Product Development
  • Systems Analysis and Design
  • Project Management

These are assessed through assignments that are internally marked and externally moderated.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English.

How does the college allocate places to students?

All applicants will be invited to attend an admissions interview. An offer of a place to study at Cadbury Sixth Form College is made subject to you meeting the College's standard entry grade requirements.

How much does it cost to study at Cadbury Sixth Form College?

There are no tuition fees for 16-18 year-olds. Students are asked to pay a £25 book deposit when they enrol at the college, however this is returned at the end of the two years of study when all books and resources have been returned to the college. Some subjects will offer field trips which may impose some additional costs, however these costs will be kept to a minimum and these field trips are not compulsory.

When does enrolment take place?

Enrolment takes place from GCSE Results Day. Further details about enrolment and a date/time for your individual appointment will be sent to you in a letter over the summer holiday. Enrolment takes on average 1-2 hours.
