Deanna reaches for the stars in Power Lifting Competition!

Deanna Dawkins joined Cadbury College in 2015 from Lyndon School, studying Applied Science and Business Studies, achieving a Distinction Star and Distinction in her first year exams last summer.  Her academic successes are not her only acolades though - Deanna is also a keen sportswoman, competing nationally and now internationally in power lifting!

Deanna started power lifting about a year ago, and has been appearing in various competitions for the last 9 months, however this month will see her travel to Denmark to compete at an international level and further her power lifting career.  Having trained at Hatchford Brook Powerlifting Gym in Solihull with coach Stan Macrow, Deanna qualified to compete in the International competition, the European Classic Open, Junior & Sub-Junior Championships 2017, which will be held in Denmark. In the qualifying round in October 2016, Deanna reached new highs;117kg squat, 57.5kg bench and 145kg deadlift.  For this time round, she has set her sights even higher!

Deanna has been training at the gym and fitness suite at Cadbury College this academic year, and is ready to make the trip to Denmark on Thursday 9th March, in preparation for her part of the competition on Sunday 12th March between 10am and 2:30pm. The event will be live streamed online, and you can watch it for yourself here: Deanna should be appearing at around 12pm - don't miss it!

In support of Deanna and her outstanding achievements so far, the college is hosting a "Meet and Greet" session where other students can find out all about competing. We'll also be hosting a power lifting challenge, encouraging other students to have a go at something they may not have considered before!
