Turves Green Girls' School Enjoy a visit to Cadbury College

Pupils from Turves Green Girls’ School got a taste of college life on Thursday 2 October by spending a day at Cadbury Sixth Form College.

The visit was organised to help pupils start thinking about careers and their plans for after school.

Over 100 Year 8 pupils visited the specialist sixth form college to undertake a range of activities including a careers quiz which explored the skills required for different jobs.

The pupils got to meet former Turves Green Girls’ School pupils who are now students at the college and heard about the differences between school and college as well as the advantages of studying A Levels. The pupils were also treated to musical performances from A Level Drama and BTEC Performing Arts students. The day ended with a fashion show in which Cadbury College students modelled garments created by students studying A Level Textiles.

The visit was arranged as part of the newly-formed Endeavour Co-operative Education Trust, which is a partnership between Turves Green Girls’ School and Cofton Primary with Cadbury College, Bournville College, Worcester University and Alphabets at Cofton. The Trust was set up to forge partnerships and develop opportunities for local children and young people of both schools.

Mike Jackson, Physics Teacher at Turves Green Girls’ School, said:

“For many pupils this was their first visit to a local college and we hope it will inspire them when they are thinking about their plans for after school.”

Every year a number of Turves Green Girls’ School pupils join Cadbury College to study A Levels and then progress on to university, with recent former pupils moving on to take degree courses in Biochemistry, English and Teaching at university.

Andy Cookson, Assistant Principal at Cadbury Sixth Form College, said:

“It’s never too early for pupils to start researching career ideas and we hope the event has helped pupils learn more about college and where it can take them in the future.”
