The qualifications aim to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills of the principles of IT and Global Information Systems. You will gain an insight into the IT sector as you investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale, and the importance of legal and security considerations. Designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector, the Level 3 Cambridge Technical in IT focuses on the requirements that today’s universities and employers demand.
You will also develop professional, personal and social skills, as well as theoretical knowledge and understanding to underpin these skills. These support the transferable skills required by universities and employers such as communication, problem solving, time management, research and analytical skills.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English.
An IT qualification can lead to possible careers such as: game programmers, animators, level designers/developers, project managers and website designers.
Components of the Course
There are 3 mandatory units:
- Fundamentals of IT
- Global Information
- Cyber Security
These are assessed by written examinations that can be taken in January or June each year; resit opportunities are also available.
There are 2 optional units taken from:
- Internet of Everything
- Product Development
- Systems Analysis and Design
- Project Management
These are assessed through assignments that are internally marked and externally moderated.
